Welcome to the Alresford Station House website!

Alresford Station House (in Essex) is the subject of a community project being progressed by the aptly named Alresford Station House Community Group Ltd . We aim to turn the Victorian station house into a community cafe and community hub.

ASH was formalised in 2019 with the creation of the Community Benefit Society but its roots go back much further. Volunteer Station Adopters have been working with the various rail franchise holders for many years keeping the platform in good order. In 2014 this involvement extended to take on the waste ground around the old entrance to the Station House in order to create a community garden, which was cleared with the help of student volunteers from Essex University in Wivenhoe.

This has proved very popular with people wanting to help and just enjoy the space. Local schools visit the garden and the SEN Marketfields school in nearby Elmstead Market are regular visitors, enjoying the fairy homes created by one of the volunteers. A small wildlife area has proven very beneficial for two brothers in the village who have been very sick. Visiting brings much joy to them and their mother.

At the end of 2016 a group of keen residents saw the potential of a natural progression to take on the building itself to further improve the area and add extra facilities. This idea has been gaining traction ever since and with the support of feedback via the recent Neighbourhood Plan and Alresford Parish Council it brings us to the present day.

The Community Garden

The Community Garden has developed to the front of the property. A garden created by local volunteers.

Support for the Project

Greater Anglia has shown support for the project and key officials attended (together with residents) when a Government Minister visited in 2021.

Community Involvement

The project is geared to working with the award winning  Station Adopter Volunteers and the wider community. We hope that residents will consider buying shares in the venture.
